Gnigl is a calm and extremely safe neighborhood in the north-eastern part of Salzburg, about 15 minutes from the historic city center by public transportation.
Supermarket, pharmacy, bank, bakery, park: all in short walking distance (3-5 minutes).
Parking is free in this area and there's usually a parking spot available in front of the house or close by.
If you've had enough of sightseeing in the Altstadt, you could go hiking to the local mountains (e.g. Heuberg or Gaisberg) directly from the apartment and enjoy the view of the city from above.
